“Every tribe, every tongue, every nation will bow and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord!”

Shortly after I wrote last month’s article, Nashville, the place which I’ve called home for seven years, was hit by record rainfall causing disaster flooding across all of Middle TN.  Schools are out, business are closed, families dispersed because of losing their homes and all of their belongings, lives taken.  A travesty no one would have ever imagined would come.

The news and media didn’t pay attention to us.  The President didn’t come visit us.  The church became the hands and feet of Jesus.  The church realized that outside the four walls of the building stands our mission field: a city in need, a city crying out for Jesus, a city needing help, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

So, what did we do?  Started working!  My home church mobilized several teams to serve, IMMEDIATELY after the flood occurred.  In the first week, we had 600 volunteers work on over 50 houses, neighboring churches, and entire neighborhoods.  I had the privilege of visiting some of them.

In one community, a whole street was destroyed and a little boy was walking around in his mother’s shoes because he couldn’t find his anywhere.  They’d been washed away in the flood.  A team came into the neighborhood with clothes and food.  This little boy was so excited, he had shoes!  His mom told us, “He’s excited because he can go back to school, because now he has shoes!”  The school hadn’t let kids go back unless they were properly dressed.

Teams demolished homes, and are starting to rebuild.  The community stepped in and served these people, laughed with these people, prayed with these people and rebuilt their hope, again!

As I mentioned to you last month, Missions doesn’t have to start over the big pond, but as soon as you step outside of your front door. And I always close by telling you, “Tell someone the story of Jesus.  Lives will be changed and your will be one of them.”  This month I’m telling you the same thing I told you last month. If you can’t bring yourself to tell them, SHOW them!  Show someone Jesus.  Lives will be changed and yours will be one of them!
