Wendy Word + forgiven…Heart for Ministry

By Evie Hawkins

Tony and Wendy Word have been involved in Southern Gospel and Christian Country music for the biggest part of their lives. This year has been a tremendous success for the popular Wendy Word + forgiven, as they have racked up 3 Diamond Award Nominations and released a new, “What’s Wrong with Doing Right” on the Crossroads March Sampler. The song is predicted to be another success for this duet who has garnered nominations and exposure from many Southern Gospel and Christian Country outlets and charts, including 3 Diamond Awards nominations this year. But most importantly to the duet is the call to minister with their music and resources. Recently, the couple felt a call in their hearts to sponsor a missionary trip to Haiti. The trip helped to reach out to those hurting from the recent devastation there. One example of the help was with a small boy, Junior. Wendy notes, “His mother beat him in the back of the head with a knife so badly, his skull was deformed. We know that the disaster in Haiti could not be prevented, but to make a difference in a small way with missions such as these is very important to us. Many children were orphaned, like Junior. We were blessed to help out and hope and pray missions that sponsor relief to disaster areas such as these will continue.”

The newly released song, penned by Wendy, contains a relevant message for today, as it encourages people to just do the right thing. Wendy Word + forgiven will be featured in the 2nd Annual Branson Gospel Music Convention taking place in Branson, MO, June 28-July 2. The 2010 Diamond Awards ceremony is slated for July 1 during the convention; the duet has received nominations in these categories: Duet of the Year, Christian Country Group of the Year, and Female Artist of the Year for Wendy’s contributions in Christian Country.
