In the summer of 1989, we moved back to North Carolina, there I finished school and started a career in electrical installation and sales. At that point and time God called me to the ministry and was miserable until I heeded to the call. I started singing in 1995 two weekends a month with my father in a group called "Silent Power". It was Chris West, and Nathan Widener along with my father and I who made up that group. And after that a group called "The Royals" which consisted of Keith Plott and David Harvell at this point. This group later assumed the name “Danny Funderburk and Mercys Way” and gave me an opportunity to sing with Stan Shuman and Harold Gilley. This is the group that I was with full time that led me to accepting a position with "The Anchormen Quartet". In 2007 I and some dear friends that have a heart for ministry created "Driven". Along with Scott Penuel, Chad Smith and Will Lane we have seen many decisions for Christ since this ministry began. I enjoy golf and watching football. I married my best friend in 2005, Renee and we now reside in Indian Trail, North Carolina.

What is it that causes someone to experience burnout? How does someone get to a point to where they become totally exhausted especially when it comes to ministering to people? Did you know that you can be working for the Lord and still get overwhelmed? Sure you do. We recently sang at a church where the services were amazing. God was definitely in the house! The Holy Spirit was working. This church has been so blessed with a wonderful Pastor and lay people. They are truly seeking the lost for God. Under new leadership, the church has grown so rapidly in just a short couple of years. They had to go to two services. The Pastor shared with the congregation how God had blessed him and his ministry abundantly. After talking about the blessings, he began to discuss burnout. He said that he was tired and that he had gotten burnt out. We find in 1 Corinthians 10:13 a verse from God’s Word that says that God will not put any more on us than we can bear. Sometimes we may allow ourselves to become overwhelmed even when “working for the Lord.” We can take on too much. There are times when we don’t allow God to take our “workload.” Also, there are times that God may allow us to go through something to get us to a point to where we will solely rely on Him for strength. In ministry, (by the way, we all are ministers for Christ in some form or fashion) we can get overwhelmed with the “duties and responsibilities” that come along with it if we aren’t careful. The Pastor ended his “burn out sermon” with a statement saying, “It’s better to burn on than to burn out!” He looked straight at our quartet and said, “Fellas, burn that road up spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ! Don’t ever give up; God has never given up on you!” It was a reminder for us that God has given us this ministry so that people could come to know the saving grace of Jesus and that every mile is worth it, but we need to be careful too not get burnt out by trying to do it on our own. No one has ever been able to save any one, but Jesus Christ, so we have to let Him be the One who truly does the work! Amen?! Until next time, continue to be Driven……. . .
