Liberty Quartet is a well-known group in the western United States.  They are based out of the state of Idaho.  Current members of the group include Royce Mitchell (bass), Dan Gilbert (lead), Doran Ritchey (baritone/piano), and Keith Waggoner (tenor).

“Above And Beyond” is the group’s first DVD.  The concert was recorded at the First Christian Church in Yuma, AZ.  It features a collection of songs from a few of their past albums, including several from their most recent album of new songs, “There’s A Testimony”.  For those who live in the eastern United States and have never had the opportunity to see this group live in concert, this well-produced video is a great way to do so.

The emcee work is handled mostly by bass singer Royce Mitchell, but each of the guys takes a turn as well.  There is an “ease” about the group in concert- they are comfortable with each other and with what they do.  They seem to know when it’s time to be funny and when it’s time to be serious.  It’s also apparent that they thoroughly enjoy ministering in song.  There is always a smile on their faces as they sing.  Finally, as good as this group is on a studio album, they are as good- if not a little bit better- in a live concert setting.  This speaks to the obvious work that the group puts into their music and their ministry.  Their blend is tight, and baritone Doran Ritchey only adds to the enjoyment with his piano playing.  His instrumental rendition of “I’ll Fly Away” is flat-out GOOD.

I would like to thank the Liberty Quartet for giving me an opportunity to review this DVD.  It is a quality concert video that will be a blessing to all who view it.
