Group Name: The Dosses “Still Trusting Him” is the latest album from the Dosses. Except for two familiar songs that are in public domain, each song on the album was written by Dianne. The album cover features a clear picture of the group, and the inside includes the lyrics to the songs. People who have read many of my reviews know that this is always a plus with me. Now, let’s take a look at each of the songs on the
album. The fourth song is an up-tempo number called “Arise, Get Up And Go”. Neal is the featured vocalist on this song, and he has a very rich tone to his voice. I like the song and the arrangement, but the group has some slight issues with saying their words together on the choruses. The next song is a majestic-sounding rendition of the old hymn, “It Is Well”. I have always loved this song and its powerful message. Song #6 is called “It’s Been Worth The Journey”. This medium-tempo song features Jessica, and her vocals are a pleasure to hear. She has a slightly deeper and softer tone than Dianne while easily matching the power of Dianne’s vocals. I also like the blend of the group with Dianne on lead vocals. Next up is an up-tempo song featuring Neal called “I’m Going To A City”. The eighth song is another Dianne feature. “What Did Mary Ponder?” is a slower, softer ballad with some thought-provoking lyrics. Song #9, “We Need To Run To Jesus”, is an up-tempo song featuring Jessica on lead vocals. The next song is a familiar song that I didn’t realize until now was written by Dianne. Fans of Southern Gospel everywhere love “Oh, I Want To See Him”. No one vocalist is featured here; instead, the overall group blend is showcased. Finally, the album ends with and a cappella arrangement of another old hymn, “In The Garden”. There’s a little bit of sliding up to pitches, and the blend is not as tight as on previous songs, but it’s still a good effort overall. Fans of traditional Southern Gospel, I think, will enjoy the music of the Dosses. Dianne is a gifted songwriter, and the group sound is solid. I would like to see them experiment just a bit more with different vocal arrangements, especially putting Jessica on lead vocals. I liked the mix of song tempos throughout the album, and it’s obvious that the group greatly enjoys what they do. Overall, I would give this album a 7.5 out of 10 microphones! Favorites: “Ain’t No Rock Gonna Do My Job!”, “When I See Who He Is”, “It’s Been Worth The Journey”, and “We Need To Run To Jesus”
